Apparently I have a thing for Jesse McCartney. I was a big fan of “How Do You Sleep” and even though “Shake” isn’t up to that level, it’s been my go-to workday music this week.

This video, though: such a budget “Shawty Is A Ten” rip. The song itself is kind of The-Dreamy, with the not-too-specific lyrical detail and the way the music leads all light and airy. But the video! It’s like that scene in American Psycho with the business card dick-measuring, except McCartney shows up at the table and shows The-Dream his card, which features the same gray-spotlit background with the chair and the lipgloss closeups and the different colored Fruit of the Loom multipack dance outfits.

Does it make me love the song less? It does not. The similarities give it a desperate Canal Street knock-off quality, which kind of suits McCartney. I wish he’d take it further, and just remake “Shawty” shot for shot, then maybe the “My Love” video for whatever the single comes out next.
