Eight-tracks, cassettes and now…
Slow And Steady: Vinyl Survives : NPR

“I think that vinyl in a way represents slow. And I think that’s something that’s attractive about it maybe on a subliminal level for consumers that are maybe on the Internet, to get something that’s really physical, maybe archaic in a way, but the complete antithesis of what the speed of consuming music on the Internet is.”
— Andres Santo Domingo, the co-founder of the label Mexican Summer

Tumblr bonus cut!

“Even when there’s a release that becomes huge, we don’t really press that much more vinyl. Kid Cudi “Day And Night” came out on Fool’s Gold originally. That single went platinum. We pressed and sold 2,500 vinyls. That’s because I think there’s a finite number of vinyl fans in this scene. So when a record gets bigger and bigger and bigger, all it does is it reaches more and more layers of music fans. But you’re going outside the niche. And the vinyl fans are in the niche. You can go and reach … all these different pockets of people, but they’re actually downloading it. It doesn’t mean there’s suddenly more people who are like “I want the vinyl.” No. There is a set amount of people who actually will buy the vinyl. That’s one of my favorite factoids about being a label that presses vinyl. Just, “Day And Night” platinum single, 2,500 records.”
- Alain Macklovitch (a.k.a. A-Trak), DJ and owner, Fool’s Gold Records

I’ve had this story bouncing around in the back of my brain for about a year. It feels good to finally get it out.

I love the whole ritual of getting the record out and putting the needle on. Plus i think Vinyl has a more textual sound
